02 X DESCRIPTION
The project of a new museum of architecture is located in Mario Pagano street, in Milan, an area on an urban void left by the former railway that connected Porta Genova to Farini area (former Sempione railway yard).
After a first analysis of the city a series of resistant forms have been identified, like the sign left by Medieval walls or Spanish walls, that the urban texture doesn’t erase. In order to maintain the sign of the former railway we worked on half part of the area and it was saturated to remark the limit of that void.
The building is composed of a tall element, which follows the direction of the urban fabric around the area, where are located a new library, a bar, workshop rooms and a restaurant. Furthermore, the building is composed of a lower element, within spaces for temporary exhibitions, which is directly connected to another high element through a basement, where the hall and the permanent exhibition are located.
The building is covered with a skin of white brise-soleil, that modulates light of sun. Finally, the project aims to regenerate the area, giving the city a building that could become a reference point for people and the city of Milan.
